I am so thankful to Mr. Arthur for what he has done for my children and other children alike. I don't know where our children would be if he hadn't started these wonderful schools.Thank you to all of the parents, like this one, who have taken the time to leave your thoughts and opinions. If you haven't left a comment before and would like to, see the next post for instructions on how to have your voice heard.
But as most of you have said it isn't fair how he is treating his staff and teachers. If we don't have these quality teachers and staff we don't have a quality school. Mr. Arthur is and ever will be a wonderful educator. He is not a businessman. Unfortunately, when you have employees, (aka staff & teachers), you must run your school as a business.
Why is Mr. Arthur on his own board? It may not be illegal but it is unethical.
If we as parents do not stand up for our teachers who will. We must stand together with our teachers and tell him their needs and see that they get fullfilled. Yes these wonderful schools were brought to us by a wonderful man, but public schools do not belong to anyone but the public. And these are public charter schools. They belong to us!

As a AA teacher, I have completely lost faith in Mr. Arthur's ability to effectively lead this organization. It is painful to watch what is happening to staff and teachers alike. We are told to be open with our opinions, and then reprimanded for not supporting the leadership. We are instructed to be honest on the "anonymous" staff surveys, and then are not told the results except for sarcastic remarks made by Mr. Arthur and several of the managers about Oregon being an "at will" state. How are we supposed to take those types of statements, except to believe that our opinions mean nothing and that if we do not like things the way they are, we can leave. In no other public business would this be the case. Mangers in regular companies are held accountable for their staff satisfaction and tunrover rates. I personally am tired of working in a three ring circus. It is nearly impossible to get a straight, honest answer out of either Mr. Arthur or the school managers. One of the few managers who actually seemed aware of what is really going on and tried to help, was recently let go. If Mr. Arthur truly cared about this great organization, he would step aside in the hopes that fresh, new leadership might be able to turn things around. The idea that without Mr. Arthur these schools will crumble, is ludicrous and insulting to the staff and teachers who day in and day out do the actual work that keeps them running successfully.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know why the results of the surveys were not made public?
ReplyDeleteAnd why are the teachers and staff required to fill out a form at the end of this year explaining why they (staff and teachers) should be hired back for Mr. Arthur and the "managers"?
